1ST + BROADWAY PARK DESIGN COMPETITION

As part of Los Angeles’ 50 Parks Initiative, a proposal of First and Broadway Park competition explores the nature of Southern California’s social climate, and the relationship between the people of Los Angeles and how they utilize outdoor space year-round. A seamless connection between architecture, the land, and those who visit the site, this project investigates geology, sustainability, and history to bring a unique and creative solution to the Los Angeles Civic Center.

Hoping to encourage people to engage with architecture, First and Broadway’s planted arches bring a seamless connection between the building and the ground plane. Inspired by the tectonic forms beneath Los Angeles, and in combination with recycled concrete from the LA River, the site aims to educate visitors on the history of Southern California while providing sustainable processes to address water conservation. Each form has a purpose, making this project a complete solution for Downtown Los Angeles civic open space.
